An Update from the Weavers

It’s hard to believe it’s already February.

It’s been just over two months since I was released from the hospital, and we’ve learned a lot since then. One of the biggest lessons is that healing from sepsis doesn’t follow a simple or fast timeline. Post-Sepsis Syndrome is real, and getting my body back to “normal” has taken far longer than we ever imagined.

We spent most of January in Florida doing exactly what doctors recommended. Rest. Heal. Breathe. Even a day for Leslie to hear and meet John C Maxwell. We returned home for appointments and walked straight into the Ice Storm of the Century. In the past ten days alone, I’ve seen four different doctors to make sure things are truly moving in the right direction and to rule out anything that could land me back in the hospital.

I honestly thought I’d be mostly back by now. I’m not. My energy is slowly improving, and I’m grateful for that, but it’s still limited. I prepared for some financial downtime, but I’ll be honest, this season has stretched us in ways we didn’t fully anticipate.

What has carried us is people. More than 50 people have stepped in with generosity, encouragement, meals, prayers, financial help, and steady support. We are deeply grateful. We have felt surrounded, loved, and held up in ways we will never forget.

And we’re also facing the reality that we still need help. A new year brought a new insurance deductible. Medical appointments are already scheduled well into April. Rebuilding business momentum while operating with limited energy has been slow and humbling. For about 75 days now, I haven’t been able to contribute in the ways I normally do, and that weight is real. I’m normally the one trying to help others out, I’m not very good at asking for help.

So here we are, asking for help as we navigate the next few months and work to rebuild. The good news is that life and purpose are still very much moving forward. The Making Elephants Fly podcast is back. (You can listen to a new episode with Leslie and I sharing our story on Apple, Spotify, and YouTube.) Two The Thing Conferences and three tour stops are in the works. I’m working toward releasing a new book later this year. The vision is alive.

If you’re able to contribute to our GoFundMe, or give again, it would help carry us through this season and allow us to continue serving people with clarity, connection, and hope. Facing death and uncertainty has changed me. It has awakened a deeper urgency and a clearer purpose to help people come alive to why they’re here and take their next brave step.

Thank you for standing with us. Thank you for your kindness, your generosity, and your belief in what we’re building.

We are truly grateful.

With love,

Terry and Leslie

I’m Terry Weaver — business coach and idea strategist who specializes in helping remarkable leaders navigate the galaxy of entrepreneurship. My biggest goal is to help YOU discover what you really want and help discover the map to head in the direction and arrive at the destination. You desire. It’s the age old Spice Girls question I ask all my clients:“ Tell me what you want, what you really really want.” Almost immediately after high school I became a full time speaker speaking to students in middle school, high school, and colleges. During that time I accidentally found myself in the music business helping artists navigate moving their dreams from their garage to selling out shows and topping the charts. Standing on stage in a packed arena things began to shift for me.

Three months ago, I was in the ICU, not sure what was ahead. I had just had an ambulance ride, which I still have no memory of. What I did know was that the event had started 9 years before, and was going on without me. I was supposed to be on stage, and instead I was fighting for my life. I was 100% dependent on my community to pull off the event I dreamed of, and the medical team to take care of me! I was living what I’ve been preaching for years. If you want to go fast, go alone, but if...

Greetings from the frozen tundra that is Nashville. I’m back from sabbatical in Florida and we are currently on day 5 of being iced in. Based on the weather, we should have stayed a few days longer. I'm still healing and trying to get my strength and energy back. Some days I feel like I can run through a wall, and some days I feel like the wall ran through me. While we were gone, we spent time relaxing and dreaming about the next year. A few friends from the Thing community even joined us for...

Hey friends, I want to share the full story of what happened at The Thing this year. Many of you have heard bits and pieces, but I want you to hear it directly from me. What Happened at The Thing Tuesday night started like every other amazing kickoff. We hosted our VVIP Welcome Dinner in our suite, and it was special. One of the attendees said something that hit me hard: “I knew I’d get a ton of help. What I wasn’t prepared for was how much everyone cared for each other… and how much you...
