I wish you could’ve been in the room

“Yesterday I walked in not knowing quite what to expect, and I left knowing I had been in the kind of room I have been hoping to find.”

That’s what Caroline Tiell of Pinnacle Counseling Institute shared after The Thing Roadshow. She ended her note with this:

“At the end of the day, I walked away feeling like I had found the kind of community our organization needs as we continue to learn and grow into this next season.”

That’s why we took The Thing on the road. That's why I personally do this work.

More than 1,000 miles. New connections. Honest conversations. And room after room reminding me of this:

When the right people get in the right room, something shifts.

A huge thank-you to Leslie Weaver and Ryan Holck for joining me on this journey. Ryan and I also stopped at networking meetups along the way to hear what’s working for people—and where they’re struggling. And to Mike Brennan, Brittany Wilson, Heather DeSantis Holmes, Jim Morris, Caleb Paull, Stephen Shaprio, and Chef Alex Jones: thank you for sharing your brilliance and making these rooms so special.

Every amazing thing that happened on this trip started with a relationship. Someone I knew. Someone willing to make an introduction. Someone who said, “You need to meet this person.”

And that’s what has me so excited about The Thing’s main event in Orlando.

Yesterday, I was on a call with one of our Orlando speakers, comparing what we’re hearing from other leaders. The same theme kept coming up: people feel like they’re in a season of struggle.

We could talk all day about the economy or the rise of AI. But our conversation kept coming back to staying on mission—and surrounding yourself with people who help you keep going when that gets hard.

It’s easier to see a way forward when you know someone who’s been there. When you have people to call. When a conversation opens a door you didn’t even know existed.

That’s the opportunity in Orlando.

Come with the question you’ve been wrestling with. Come with the idea you haven’t figured out how to move forward. Come ready to meet people who understand what it takes to build something that matters. You don’t need to have it all figured out to belong in this room. Caroline didn’t know what to expect, either.

Pick yourself. Get in the room.

The community you’re part of and the relationships you build can change what’s possible from here. Give yourself the chance to find yours.

See you in Orlando!!

I’m Terry Weaver — business coach and idea strategist who specializes in helping remarkable leaders navigate the galaxy of entrepreneurship. My biggest goal is to help YOU discover what you really want and help discover the map to head in the direction and arrive at the destination. You desire. It’s the age old Spice Girls question I ask all my clients:“ Tell me what you want, what you really really want.” Almost immediately after high school I became a full time speaker speaking to students in middle school, high school, and colleges. During that time I accidentally found myself in the music business helping artists navigate moving their dreams from their garage to selling out shows and topping the charts. Standing on stage in a packed arena things began to shift for me.

Two weeks from today, we’ll be together in Orlando for THE THING. Yes, I’m excited about the speakers, the conversations, and the Moments of Magic we have planned. But what I’m most excited about? The people. The speakers bring brilliance. But some of the best moments happen offstage. At lunch. In the hallway. Over dinner. In the hotel lobby, when someone says exactly what you needed to hear—and you realize you have something they need, too. That’s why I built THE THING. To bring people...

There’s cake-and-candles gratitude, and then there’s getting another birthday after wondering from a hospital bed if you would see another. This year, I’m feeling that second kind. I get more time with Leslie. More conversations with friends. More chances to help somebody see what’s possible. More opportunities to do the work I believe I’m here to do. At 51, if I know anything, it’s that stuff collects dust. Our relationships are a gift. The people who show up, tell us the truth, believe in...

Last October, I was too busy planning The Thing to celebrate my 50th birthday. Less than a month later, I was lying in a hospital bed wondering if I would get another one. On October 17th, I turn 51, and I want to celebrate by helping you get into that room. I know it’s my birthday and I’m the one giving the gift. Before I give you the details, I want you to understand why this matters so much to me. Last November, I was in Orlando for The Thing. We’d spent months preparing. People had booked...
